We’re kicking off 2019 by sharing a significant ELSA update: We recently secured a Series A funding round of $7 million. Our lead investor for this new phase of our company is Gradient Ventures, Google’s AI-focused venture fund, and we thank them for their support. We also received a repeat investment from Monks Hill Ventures as well as SOSV.
Over the past year, our journey has taken us down a path of exponential growth. We’re proud to have made an impact by helping a global community of more than 4 million English learners improve their pronunciation and give them better opportunities to unleash their full potential, whether at work, school or travel.
Following on our success in Vietnam this past year, we’ll use this capital to scale our business to new markets in Asia, such as Indonesia, India and Japan, where we’re seeing a big demand for English speaking skills. In addition, we will expand ELSA’s award-winning AI and speech capabilities. Having the experience and support of the fantastic team at Gradient Ventures is essential in this endeavor and we’re thrilled to work together.
As part of this news today, we’re also pleased to announce that we’re building a business operations team in Tokyo. We’re hiring across the board and excited to meet with new candidates and partners. It’s been an exciting few months here at ELSA and our team is gearing up for a productive year as we continue to offer the world’s best English pronunciation app. We’re extremely grateful to our community of users, investors, mentors and partners for their support in our continued success.
Even though there are still a lot of challenges to tackle, we’re delighted with the journey ahead. If you are passionate about technology and improving people’s life, do not hesitate to come on board!
